October 30th, 2009

In the previous post email SPAM combat strategy: Part 1 I introduced the concept of using tracer emails to help track where your email has been and possibly who’s been sharing it.  In this post, I will be sharing how to manage all these gmail accounts using a single email application.

email SPAM combat strategy: Part 1

October 29th, 2009

Email is a wonderful tool used to communicate ideas. Email is often used to build community across the world wide web.

Daily scenarios on the internet:

  1. You publish your email, so the public can send email directly to you.
  2. You want a rebate, so you have to supply a valid email address in order to get your cash back.
  3. You want information, a free eBook or report, so you have to give an email in order to receive.
  4. You want to subscribe to a newsletter, the cost is free except you must provide an email address
  5. You want participate in a social network, but you must use an email address in order to gain access.

The problem: Each of these scenarios are great reasons to provide an email address.  Unfortunately, there are forces at work that want to send you SPAM; Emails that are unsolicited and unwanted.  When they, the SPAMMERS, get their hands on your email address they abuse it and share it with their associates who do the same until you are forced into killing lots of time every day wading through an endless sea of useless information just to find those few relevant emails.

Phishing for your Social Network passwords

October 28th, 2009

I received a Phishing email the other day. Phishing is pronounced like “Fishing”, unlike the time honored activity of trying to catch a fish, phishing is the attempt to fool a person into revealing their personal information.

Believe it or not, there are websites devoted to sharing information on how to phish. These websites contain all kinds of information needed to successfully phish for information.  They contain posts about everything phishing related from creating a phishing website to sending official looking emails. Their intent is to trick unsuspecting users into giving up their passwords or personal information.

Windows 7 has been released, what are your plans?

October 23rd, 2009

When Vista was released, many Windows XP users resisted assimilation.  Microsoft tried to force Windows XP into an early grave. Then recanted as businesses resisted due to many issues that I won’t cover in this post.  Most people who did upgrade later wished they had avoided all the headaches.

I learned something new today

October 23rd, 2009

I have learned a new lesson related to my craft. Apparently, some websites practice what is called website scraping. This is where they grab your content and then republish it as their own.  Yesterday, I posted “9 ways to keep your mind sharp“.  On that very same day, another site took my post and posted it on their website.  No mention of my name, just a Read More link that pointed to my post.  I discovered this post because of this thing called a pingback.

9 ways to keep your mind sharp

October 22nd, 2009

In our daily rush to get things done we sometimes forget our brain needs to be worked out too.  If we don’t do anything mentally challenging, our brains have a tendency to forget those skills we once knew so well.  Those skills are still there, they’re just getting weaker from lack of use.  This is especially important for anyone that is in a career transition.

While doing research for this post, I stumbled across a few interesting websites I will mention in this post.

Have you defined your potential customer?

October 21st, 2009

Over the past couple of months I have developed a workshop that teaches people about Personal Marketing.  The concept is pretty simple.  We focus on the 4 P’s of Marketing.

The 4 P’s of Marketing Mix:

  1. Product – Define the product that will be sold
  2. Place – Establish where the product will compete for customers
  3. Price – Determine how much will be charged for the product
  4. Promotion - Get the message in front of the eyes of the customer that will pay for the product.

Usually when a company is developing a new Product, » Read more: Have you defined your potential customer?

15 ways to make time for others

October 20th, 2009

I don’t have enough time is something I hear people say all the time.  It’s not really the truth. You need to really sit down and listen to what you’re saying to others. The message you’re sending is I won’t make the time.

Consider how much time it would actually take to sit down and pay a little attention to your loved ones. If you really love them, you need to make the time.

Here are some ways you can make the time: » Read more: 15 ways to make time for others
