Articulation Agreements and degree acceptance

A few days ago I wrote a post about “College names and reputations” the main goal of this article was to point out all the things you should consider when choosing a post-secondary school.  One of the words I’ve been hearing  alot lately is articulation or articulation agreement..

An Articulation Agreement is a written agreement between one educational institution and another institution that lists courses and their equivelant at the other college.  The purpose of this agreement is to help students easily transfer credits between educational systems; this is especially useful for transferring from a 2 year to a 4 year college.

Don’t assume any of your college credit is transferrable.  If you plan to attend more than one college to complete your education you should check the college articulation agreements.

If you attended college in California, you can check public articulation agreements by visiting  ASSIST (Articulation System Stimulating Inter-institutional Transfer)

Knowing which colleges have Articulation Agreements and which courses are being articulated can help you make important decisions about your educational future.

My journey to the App Store

Over the past few months I have gone through a major journey of discovery and enlightenment.  At the end of 2009 I decided to update my software development skills.  The platforms I decided to learn were the iPhone and Mac OS X.  I figured developing iPhone and Mac OS X applications would utilize my experience as a software developer and help me learn some transferrable skills along the way.

The early days Continue reading

College names and reputations

I recently started looking into updating my education.  It seems that a high school diploma and job experience will only get you so far in life.  An Associate Degree plus experience might get you a little further.  But if you want any kind of technical or professional job you probably need at least a Bachelor’s Degree.  For some employers even that isn’t enough. They want you to have a Master’s Degree or even better a PhD.

The other day I visited a college fair.  You get to talk with representatives of different colleges about their college or university and how it might fit your needs.  As I went from table to table, I would introduce myself and ask them 2 questions.  First, are they regionally accredited?  Second, do they offer the degree I’m looking for?  If they answered NO to either of those questions, I said thanks and then moved on to the next one.  I found four colleges that seemed to offer what I was looking for. Check your fluids and blood pressure

Many of us go through this life so preoccupied with the pursuit of success that we often neglect to take care of our most important asset – our bodies.

Most bodies in their twenties and thirties can handle the extra wear and tear they might be exposed to.

Common abuses:

  • Poor sleeping habits
  • Fast food
  • Energy drinks
  • Excessive caffeine
  • High sodium diet
  • Minimal exercise, if any
  • Constant stress related to relationships, work and/or education demands

When the body passes the age of forty  it doesn’t spring back so quickly.  The muscles aren’t as elastic as they used to be.  What used to take a day to recoup from, now takes a few more days.  That’s when some people start to notice they aren’t spring chickens any more 😉

The other day, on a whim, I got my blood pressure checked.  It was a real shocker for me. Continue reading

Creating a sense of urgency

Sometimes people don’t get things done in a timely manner because they aren’t focused or do not have a sense of urgency. I recently read that successful people always have a sense of urgency to accomplish whatever they are working on at the time. They focus their efforts on doing the tasks that are important to the success of their project. Continue reading
