Slow down and be S.M.A.R.T.

Over the last couple of weeks, I noticed that many people try to complete jobs by doing everything at once instead of breaking the job into smaller manageable tasks. Many times they get stuck trying to figure out where to start. A tutorial video is better than many books

I recently purchased instructional books that were supposed to help make a subject easier to learn.  It turns out the books had differing opinions on how to accomplish the task.  One book gave the directions but left out some vital information.  The other book used a different method and glossed over some basic details I needed to learn.  When I first purchased the books, I kind of knew what I wanted but I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for.  I just figured these books had a lot of examples, so they would be a good reference for the project I’m working on.  It turns out that neither book had the information I was looking for.  Continue reading

Create iPhone icons on a PC

Many times when people need to get a job done quickly they will go to their old reliable utility programs.  I have a few of those.  At the present time, when I need to get graphics done quickly, I use Paint.Net.  It is a lot like Photoshop, easy to use and, best of all, it’s free.  The only problem is it was developed for Windows.  I needed to create some Tab Bar icons for an iPhone Application I’m developing.  The task wasn’t too difficult, or so I thought. All I had to do was create a 32 x 32 pixel PNG file then transfer the file over to my Mac and import it as a resource into the XCode environment. Continue reading
