Games help people stay mentally sharp by challenging their skills and abilities. They also serve as inexpensive entertainment.
Games come in all kinds of forms
- Board
- Card
- Dice
- Dominoes
- Stones / Gems
- Pegs
- Paper & Pen
- Role Playing
- Video
- Simulations
- Repetition
Some games are designed to be played solo where your goal is to finish the game. These games tend to be based on memory, pattern recognition, logic and persistance. If you finish the game then you win. Other games are designed to be played head to head. These are usually games of chance or strategy or a combination. There are usually points involved and depending on the point system the lowest or the highest score wins. The last kind of games are designed to encourage teamwork, social skills and comradery.
Here are a few of my favorite games:
- Sudoku
- Chess
- Othello
- Pente
- Chicken Foot
- Cashflow 101
- Halo

*Sequence
*Compatibility
*Yatzee
*Monopoly
*Cranium
I know that there are others…
As for video games …..WELL….you have seen me play Halo. How hilarious was that?!?!??
Thanks Wes!!
I forgot Cranium. We have that one too.
Do play mostly with family or when friends visit?
We play Pinochle eleven months a year with five other couples.(We always skip either July or August depending on schedules). Three of the six couples have been in the same group since we started playing cards together over 20 years ago!
My favorite board games include Blokus (Triange or square shapes),Life (with the grandies, our version is at least 20 years old),and Scrabble. I was also introduced to Sequence recently and it is quite fun!
Dominoes (Chicken Foot and Mexican Train)
Rummicub and Triominoes which are both tile games without a board.
Dice games: Yatzee, Farkle and Bunco.
Computer games: Spider Solitare and a something on the webgames site called ___Raiders. You make colored chains to go to the next level.
It sounds like Pinochle encourages social bonding. That’s amazing. Over 20 years is quite a feat.
We have played Cranium with friends but mostly family. We used to have family night when we made it a point to not have any other commitments. We played games all night!
It was fun.
We should have a game night with the crew!!
Psssst…..put that little bug in Kristen’s ear!
Cindy
I haven’t played any games in a while, but I love…
-Scrabble
-Gears of War
-Solitaire
-Black Jack
I don’t play a lot of board games or other games….but I think I would like to start playing more.
Hmmmm, and a game night sounds fantastic. 🙂
Lately I’ve been playing:
* Upwords (3D Scrabble) with the family
* Trivial Pursuit
* Mafia when we have a large group
* Poker with my friends
* Spider Solitaire
I’ve always liked Pictionary, even though I can’t draw!
I’ve never heard of Spider Solitaire. I’ll have to check that one out.
I had forgotten about Pictionary too. That’s a great game.
