Over the past month I have been watching a new Video On Demand show on my TiVo. The show demonstrates a new App each day. I find the information presented very informative and useful.
Here’s what I learn with each show:
- It shows off the main features of each App.
- I can see what is being charged for these features.
- I helps me make an informed decision about the usefulness of an App without purchasing it.
To see what they have available you can visit their website at http://dailyappshow.com/
At the time of this post, it appears they are posting videos for iPhone, iPad, and Android Apps.

Last week I was in Yosemite with our Venture Crew. We were hiking from Bridleveil falls back to our campsite and somewhere along the way ended up on the wrong side of the Merced river. There definitely was no place to cross. While we were hiking along the road the thought came to mind that we could give up because it seemed impossible. However, I remembered a quote from Alice in Wonderland. Alice was talking to the Doorknob about getting to the other side. The Doorknob in his wisdom could see beyond what seemed impossible and used a different term impassible to describe the situation. Continue reading →
Many Windows PC users don’t know their computer has a virus until their system starts to act funny. Maybe everything seems to be fine, but there is something that doesn’t seem quite right. Their computer might seem a little bit sluggish or a favorite homepage has suddenly been replaced by something else. Worse yet, their default browser can’t get access to the internet. When this happens to you, what do you do? Continue reading →
This past weekend I went on a camping trip to Yosemite. I brought all the essential things that you might need for a weekend of camping and hiking.
Every time I go camping, I bring these things with me:
- First Aid kit - deal with minor wounds.
- Tent – for protection from the elements
- Sleeping bag & sleeping pad – for comfort while sleeping
- Layered clothing - handle temperature extremes from the 30s at night to the warm/hot daytime temperatures.
- Mess kit – eating utensils
- Toiletry kit – cleanup
- Hydration pack - water while hiking
Unfortunately, I didn’t remember everything. I somehow missed the most important camping tool of all; the spoon. You might not realize how much you rely on the simple spoon until you don’t have one on hand.
Spoon acitivies:
- Scooping
- Measuring
- Mixing Stirring
- Eating
Final thoughts:
I survived the weekend campout using a fork instead of a spoon. Fortunately, for me, the menu was mostly fork friendly.
In the future, I plan to pack the most important camping tool, the spoon.

A few days ago I wrote a post about “College names and reputations” the main goal of this article was to point out all the things you should consider when choosing a post-secondary school. One of the words I’ve been hearing alot lately is articulation or articulation agreement..
An Articulation Agreement is a written agreement between one educational institution and another institution that lists courses and their equivelant at the other college. The purpose of this agreement is to help students easily transfer credits between educational systems; this is especially useful for transferring from a 2 year to a 4 year college.
Don’t assume any of your college credit is transferrable. If you plan to attend more than one college to complete your education you should check the college articulation agreements.
If you attended college in California, you can check public articulation agreements by visiting ASSIST (Articulation System Stimulating Inter-institutional Transfer)
Knowing which colleges have Articulation Agreements and which courses are being articulated can help you make important decisions about your educational future.
Over the past few months I have gone through a major journey of discovery and enlightenment. At the end of 2009 I decided to update my software development skills. The platforms I decided to learn were the iPhone and Mac OS X. I figured developing iPhone and Mac OS X applications would utilize my experience as a software developer and help me learn some transferrable skills along the way.
The early days Continue reading →

I recently started looking into updating my education. It seems that a high school diploma and job experience will only get you so far in life. An Associate Degree plus experience might get you a little further. But if you want any kind of technical or professional job you probably need at least a Bachelor’s Degree. For some employers even that isn’t enough. They want you to have a Master’s Degree or even better a PhD.
The other day I visited a college fair. You get to talk with representatives of different colleges about their college or university and how it might fit your needs. As I went from table to table, I would introduce myself and ask them 2 questions. First, are they regionally accredited? Second, do they offer the degree I’m looking for? If they answered NO to either of those questions, I said thanks and then moved on to the next one. I found four colleges that seemed to offer what I was looking for. Continue reading →
Many of us go through this life so preoccupied with the pursuit of success that we often neglect to take care of our most important asset - our bodies.
Most bodies in their twenties and thirties can handle the extra wear and tear they might be exposed to.
Common abuses:
- Poor sleeping habits
- Fast food
- Energy drinks
- Excessive caffeine
- High sodium diet
- Minimal exercise, if any
- Constant stress related to relationships, work and/or education demands
When the body passes the age of forty it doesn’t spring back so quickly. The muscles aren’t as elastic as they used to be. What used to take a day to recoup from, now takes a few more days. That’s when some people start to notice they aren’t spring chickens any more
The other day, on a whim, I got my blood pressure checked. It was a real shocker for me. Continue reading →

Sometimes people don’t get things done in a timely manner because they aren’t focused or do not have a sense of urgency. I recently read that successful people always have a sense of urgency to accomplish whatever they are working on at the time. They focus their efforts on doing the tasks that are important to the success of their project. Continue reading →
Advice: Finish the job before the storm comes.
Background: A week ago, I started repairing a gate damaged by the wind. I removed the gate, rebuilt it with a reinforced gate kit. This made the gate stronger than it was before. I was in the middle of attaching the gate to the fence when the storms came. I figured it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to stop installing the gate, it’s just a little rain I thought. By the time the storm had finished there were some pretty strong winds.
Setback: Instead of picking up the project where I left off, I had a new problem to deal with. Continue reading →
