While looking for tutorial posts on Google, I stumbled upon several tutorial videos on Youtube.  It turns out that several people had experienced this same frustration and shared their solution on video.  The best thing about video tutorials is that I can watch the sequence from start to finish.  I can watch every single step that was taken.  If a step is used in a video that I haven’t mastered yet, I can always backup the video and watch it as many times as I need to understand it.

The videos were priceless. In 15 minutes I learned what several chapters in both books had failed to teach. The videos were worth much more than both books combined.

It’s been said a picture is worth a 1,000 words.  A well made instructional video is even better.

• They assume you know very little on the subject
• They try to put complex subjects in simple terms
• They give you alot of practical examples
• Some of them, like programming books, will give you tutorials

The best way to learn when reading the “For Dummies” books:

• Read the entire book
• Complete all the tutorials and examples in the book
• Don’t short-circuit the learning process, work through all the exercises
• Don’t skip any part of the book, you may miss an important note
• Pay attention to the parts of the book that have tips in them
• Take note of the chapters you don’t understand then re-read those parts again until you do

There’s an old saying that  ”the struggle makes you stronger”. I believe this to be true.  The more challenges I face and overcome, the easier it will be to face future encounters.  Thankfully,  books like those in the “For Dummies” series provide you with valuable experience to cope with the challenges you will encounter in the future.

In case you’re wondering whyI chose this list of books.  I was recently introduced to Seth Godin through a blog.  I read Purple Cow and found his book relevant, entertaining and informative.  I’ve heard good things about the Tribes book and the much anticipated Linchpin.  I came across the other books either through referrals or watching video blogs.  All of the reviews of the published books have been positive.
